The Odyssey Continues…

Hi there. Many of the readers of this blog will already know me. My name is Karen and I’ve lived in Brisbane Australia for 20+ years. I recently retired from a long academic career, most recently with the University of Queensland Business School. While some of you may be familiar with my advocacy work in the area of extraterritorial US taxation, this site is all about my crafts (and maybe some travel).

I can’t remember not knitting. Spinning was introduced into my craft repertoire in 1994 when we were living in St. Louis, Missouri – just before we moved to Australia in 1995. In 2004, as I was finishing my PhD, I bought my first loom and learnt to weave. These three crafts will be my creative outlet in retirement as I look to improve my skills and make beautiful textiles.

I currently serve as Treasurer at Queensland Spinners, Weavers, and Fibre Artists (QSWFA), where I also tutor classes in spinning and weaving. If you’re in the Brisbane area and you haven’t checked out QSWFA, you’re missing a vibrant craft community.

My crafting plans for 2021 include a new loom – to be delivered in March or April – so stay tuned to see what I can do with 12 shafts and 110cm weaving width!

  1. Hi Karen, I’m interested in your loom. Is it still available and if so, what make is it and what width?
    Thanks, Deya
