You ply the singles together in pairs, adding extra twist, then ply those two 2-ply yarns in the opposite direction. For the blue/green yarn I spun the singles Z (clockwise), plied pairs of singles together S (anti-clockwise), and plied those pairs together Z. In the purple/brown yarn, I spun in the opposite direction (singles S). I prefer to do the singles S for cabled yarns, but I usually forget when I start and just default to spinning the singles Z. The fibres for these yarns came from Southern Cross Fibre – Grazing on the left and Gingerbread and Sugarplums on the right.

I’ve also been playing with coils:

To create these yarns you start by spinning dyed top with regularly spaced large slubs (thick and thin). These are plied with a commercial 2-ply wool yarn that has had twist removed (to make a more balanced finished yarn). I started using a ginger coloured commercial yarn, but ran out of that about 2/3 of the way through my thick and thin single. So I finished up with a dark grey commercial yarn. The fibre colourway is called Kenya. I bought it off Etsy years ago.

Finally, I spun up this lovely 50/50 merino/silk blend as a standard 2-ply yarn:

The fibre colourway was Weathered from Southern Cross Fibre.

It’s been a while since my last post.
